Just Married Exchange 2020 - Dear Creator Letter

Hello Creator!

All associated tags with a given fandom can most certainly be applied to any of the listed ships, though in the spirit of helping a fellow fan out in terms of prompting potential, I've done my best to articulate which tags I might like best to which ship.

NB: The mods have been gracious and allowed me to correct a couple of DNWs; the impacted fandom requests will have a note on them in their section.

Daniel Jackson/Jack O'Neill

Cameron Mitchell/John Sheppard

Janet Fraiser/Teal'c

Samantha "Sam" Carter/Janet Fraiser

"We Could Be Dead Tomorrow So Let's Get Married Today" - all listed ships; They all have a job that could kill them (and in most of their cases, has done so at least once), so I'd be curious to see what might get any one of them to decide they've had enough and just propose, already.

Alien Cultural Differences Over Marriage - Janet Fraiser/Teal'c; gimme that worldbuilding!

Alien Marriage Traditions - Janet Fraiser/Teal'c and/or Daniel Jackson/Jack O'Neill specifically (Daniel did live on a foreign planet for a year, and I think a wonderful way to respect how much Sha're's family probably included Daniel) specifically, but I'm absolutely game for weddings hosted on non-Earth planets.

Becoming a step-parent - Janet Fraiser/Teal'c and/or Samantha "Sam" Carter/Janet Fraiser specifically, but the others with the (unfortunately un-requested) Accidental Baby Acquisition tag would I think be incredibly entertaining to read.

A Game Of 'Fuck Marry Kill' Somehow Becomes Legally Binding - all listed ships, though admittedly a preference for Daniel Jackson/Jack O'Neill because this seems exactly like something they would do.

A Game Of 'Fuck Marry Kill' Somehow Becomes Magically Binding - all listed ships, though admittedly a preference for Daniel Jackson/Jack O'Neill because this seems exactly like something they would do.

Wedding Night - all listed ships; I'll probably like any flavour of this (smut? yes. romance? also yes. cute? also yes. ad infinitum).

Algorithmic selected marriage - all listed ships; every time I read a fic with this it's some combo of hilarious and "oh no I like you now is Panic Time TM", so I will always be excited to read this.

Blood Ritual Accidentally Results in Marriage - (nearly) all listed ships; lbr, Sam and Janet are probably too sensible for this trope, but if Sam gets her Shiny Eyes on about something new to figure out then I think Janet would get roped into it anyway.

Blurting Out Proposal Unplanned - all listed ships; I'll probably like any flavour of this trope.

Deathbed Wedding And Unexpected Survival - Daniel Jackson/Jack O'Neill is the main preference for this trope (where my want of "Jack acknowledging at least one (1) sincere emotion" comes into play - especially either Meridian or post-Meridian), but I would be so curious to see this used in any of the other ships.

People Stuck in Time Loop Get Married and then Time Loop Ends Unexpectedly - .... In retrospect, this would have been great for Teal'c/Jack O'Neill shakes fist at past self for not nominating it Though I would be delighted with primarily Daniel Jackson/Jack O'Neill and/or Janet Fraiser/Teal'c; I'm a bit wiggly if I'd like more this being someone's last try to get out of a time loop or their first, but either way I'd enjoy reading this.

Getting Married So You Can't Testify Against Each Other in Court - all listed ships; bonus points for haggling on who does the paperwork.

Getting Married To Avert A War - Cameron Mitchell/John Sheppard; oh my, especially with Blurting Out Proposal Unplanned.

Getting Married To Avoid A Diplomatic Incident - Daniel Jackson/Jack O'Neill and/or Cameron Mitchell/John Sheppard primarily, although I'd love to see how things could be worldbuilt with Janet Fraiser/Teal'c (customs of Chulak that could be obscure but suddenly relevant? Teal'c meeting Janet's family, coming back frazzled to Bra'tac to ask for help, announcing a proposal - heck, Blurting Out Proposal Unplanned - because he wishes to get along with her family? ... I may be getting attached to that idea, hmm) or Samantha "Sam" Carter/Janet Fraiser (bonus points if Janet's accompanying SG-1 to a foreign planet and either of them are the best spouse pick due to Local Politics).

Having to remarry due to death and resurrection - Daniel Jackson/Jack O'Neill; bonus points if Daniel has a very long explanation that boils down to "I may or may not have broken a rule and now have to prove my resurrection as mortal by marrying a mortal".

Marriage Causes Unexpected Magical Effects - Cameron Mitchell/John Sheppard; mostly because I'm incredibly curious to see what they would do with it (I admit preferring something along the lines of "Oh that's cool" and "kills the Wraiths/Goa'uld/Ori deader", but given how broadly I interpret magical systems in both reading and writing, I would be game for outside ideas).

Proposal after a near death experience - all listed ships; bonus points for Daniel Jackson/Jack O'Neill if Jack is the one with the NDE.

Padmé Amidala/Obi-Wan Kenobi

Jango Fett/Obi-Wan Kenobi

Padmé Amidala/Sabé

DNW note: The moderators have been kind enough to allow me an edit to my DNWs for this request, so here's the updated list - "domestic abuse, abuse by partner, infidelity, Incest, Master/Padawan ships, Master/Padawan/other moresomes, ageplay, underage, graphic depictions of rape or gore, Modern AU, Character bashing, Historical AUs, Sexism, sexist tropes, Mundane AUs, hypermasculinity, hyperfeminity, "this dick is long and skinny while this dick is short and thick" and related cliches, alpha males in the mundane romance novel sense, emasculation and related tropes, abuse within couple"

I'll be super honest and admit that the vast majority of these are more "bundles" of tags rather than individual wants.

"We Could Be Dead Tomorrow So Let's Get Married Today" - all listed ships; They're all fairly rational people with a penchant to go "fuck it" and make spontaneous decisions, and sentimental enough to make a serious, life-altering one (I am particularly looking at you, Padmé).

Secret marriage becoming public knowledge turns out to be for the best - Either of the Obi-Wan ships, because I doubt that there would be much of a potential scandal with Padmé Amidala/Sabé.

saving the day to be rewarded with permission for otherwise forbidden marriage - Either of the Obi-Wan ships, because I doubt that there would be much of a potential scandal with Padmé Amidala/Sabé.

Someone's trying to kill me and I think it's my spouse - Jango Fett/Obi-Wan Kenobi; It's a toss-up of whether I like this POV to come from Jango or Obi-Wan, but I'm absolutely game for either.

A Game Of 'Fuck Marry Kill' Somehow Becomes Legally Binding - all listed ships; excepting possibly Sabé, though where Padmé is involved, I imagine Padmé Amidala/Sabé quickly becomes a case of "two smart people combine to make one braincell".

A Game Of 'Fuck Marry Kill' Somehow Becomes Magically Binding - Padmé Amidala/Obi-Wan Kenobi and/or Jango Fett/Obi-Wan Kenobi; specifically where my want of "ironic or punny interpretation of bringing balance to the Force" come into play.

War marriage - Jango Fett/Obi-Wan Kenobi; anything from the PoTC "Barbossa, marry us!" variant to diplomatic to... really I don't even know how far this trope can be stretched, but I'll probably like it.

Wedding Night - all listed ships; I'll probably like any flavour of this (smut? yes. romance? also yes. cute? also yes. ad infinitum).

Algorithmic selected marriage - all listed ships; as much as I love this as an out-and-out AU (and I really, really do), having this as an in-universe solution to... some problem - probably diplomatic, honestly - would be for me a peak use of this trope.

Slice of Married Life During Wartime - all listed ships; war is such a huge part of this canon, and especially for many of these characters being personally involved with it on the front lines, so this is where my wants of particularly BAMF-ness, bureaucracy, and political astuteness come in.

Blurting Out Proposal Unplanned - all listed ships; I'll probably like any flavour of this trope.

Deathbed Wedding And Unexpected Survival - all listed ships; especially with the Getting Married tropes listed below.

Romantic proposal - all listed ships; I really want to sigh wistfully at my ships whenever possible, and I'm especially a fan of the understated variant of this trope whenever it can be managed.

Getting Married So You Can't Testify Against Each Other in Court - all listed ships; I'll love anything from the comedically-inclined to the strategic (both is definitely good).

Getting Married To Avert A War - Jango Fett/Obi-Wan Kenobi; this is where my "politically astute all mentioned characters (for Jango: at least some insight about political machinations if you write him, I'll legit love you forever for it)" want comes in.

Getting Married To Avoid A Diplomatic Incident - Padmé Amidala/Obi-Wan Kenobi and/or Jango Fett/Obi-Wan Kenobi; this is also where the politically astute want comes in, and bonus points if you can get my "bureaucracy is the bane of everybody's existence" want in.

Have to get married to bring balance to the Force - all listed ships; I'm a huge fan of the idea that Obi-Wan continues being the Daughter's champion even after leaving Mortis (also Obi-Wan having some practically all-powerful being personally rooting for him salvages some of the offense at him getting the perpetual short of the stick in canon). Also, Padmé/Sabé with this trope would be awesome (Anidala may be canon but Padmé literally did not come out of that marriage alive; get this lady a better spouse 2020).

Having to remarry due to death and resurrection - all listed ships; is it because of the Force? is it because of other things? Don't even care fam, lean as hard as you want into how illogical this trope can be.

Marriage Causes Unexpected Magical Effects - all listed ships; Padmé/Sabé in some sort of AU (or even some way to bend canon! I will love that!) would be super cool, and for the Obi-Wan ships I really adore the bonded telepathy/empathy tropes (which I did not have room to request, RIP me).

Proposal after a near death experience - all listed ships; right up there with the first trope in terms of how much I adore this, and I'll be so pleased with literally anything you could come up with.

Sherlock Holmes/John Watson

Mycroft Holmes/Greg Lestrade

NB: I haven't watched most of season four, and frankly I'm not a huge fan of several parts of it, but I'm okay with a lot of the general themes (Baby Watson? Yup. Asshole!John? Nnno.).

"We Could Be Dead Tomorrow So Let's Get Married Today" - Both listed ships; I put it past neither Holmes to make immense, life-altering decisions at the drop of a hat because of some inane mix of logical and sentimentalism, and I know this could well be a range from hilarious to angsty and I will be here for all of it.

Secret marriage becoming public knowledge turns out to be for the best - Both listed ships; I think this would combine well with a lot of the other tropes I picked, and the variety of reasons as to why any of them choose to keep their marriage a secret is phenomenal and probably very, very entertaining.

Person Mistaken For Mail-Order Spouse and Goes With It - Johnlock; Seems like something Sherlock would do. Seems also like something John would do (really, especially before the first episode when he actually meets Sherlock; or maybe Sherlock wasn't in the lab for some reason?).

Someone's trying to kill me and I think it's my spouse - Both listed ships; Poor Lestrade, he's probably the least likely to try and intimidate someone, even by accident, but I like this trope because it seems like something either of the Holmes would do, and John has a habit of surprising people.

Marriage Offer as Act of Appeasement - Both listed ships; Half-jokingly, half-mostly seriously, I think this would be something any of them could do as a last-moment solution to... some problem (will it be a pertinent problem? Maybe, maybe not). Pairs well with blurting out proposal unplanned.

Marriage within dreams becomes real - Johnlock; I'm a fan of magic AUs with this show, and honestly I'd love to see some poking around Sherlock's Mind Palace.

Must Marry To Be Allowed To Go To War - Both listed ships; Primarily Johnlock because I've seen some fics where John gets recalled and this would lighten up that inherent angst a little bit, but I'd be curious to see this in AU territory.

Wedding Night - all listed ships; I'll probably like any flavour of this (smut? yes. romance? also yes. cute? also yes. ad infinitum).

Algorithmic selected marriage - Both listed ships; I've seen this trope around before, and I'm very curious how it could be applied to either ship.

Old Married Couple - Both listed ships; Doesn't necessarily need to be about retirement, but I'm a fan of things more in the Established Relationship vein, where everybody's comfortable and familiar with being in a relationships.

Blurting Out Proposal Unplanned - Both listed ships; I can think of a myriad of reasons any of them would do this, and I mostly put this in for the gobsmacked, hilarious, "shouldn't have done that" faces that I know this trope would create.

Deathbed Wedding And Unexpected Survival - Both listed ships; Everyone, everyone is dramatic (especially the more time you spend around Sherlock; times a thousand for being Sherlock). Please, please give me The Faces they make. And the sputtering/rambling/what have you, that's the good shit.

Romantic proposal - Both listed ships; I mean. They try, bless 'em. And will probably give a rousingly good attempt at sweeping their partner off their feet. Bonus points for 5+1 attempts.

Getting Married So You Can't Testify Against Each Other in Court - Both listed ships; While I can say that this sort of decision would reverberate from Sherlock out, I have no doubts that any of them would have their own peculiarly, delightfully unique brand of logic to this trope.

Getting Married To Avert A War - Both listed ships; I'm leaning more toward anything involving Mycroft's work, for either ship, because Diplomatic Incidents Of Strong Caliber getting married to avert a war sounds exactly like something they would get up to (and bemoan their lives for). For Johnlock in particular, bonus points if Sherlock has a "wait, shit" moment during his Reichenbach hiatus and breaks cover just for this.

Getting Married To Avoid A Diplomatic Incident - Both listed ships; Much the same as the above trope, though lower on the Oh Shit scale of things.

Pretending to be Married for Method Acting - Johnlock; Sherlock's done it before, at least, though I would also immensely enjoy John running into some ex and convincing a not-entirely reluctant Sherlock on board with the plan.

Having to remarry due to death and resurrection - Both listed ships; Primarily a literal AU with Reichenbach!Sherlock, though this is one of those tropes that I'd like with a magical AU for both.

Marriage Causes Unexpected Magical Effects - Both listed ships; Primarily a literal AU with Reichenbach!Sherlock, though this is one of those tropes that I'd like with a magical AU for both.

Proposal after a near death experience - Both listed ships; Their day jobs are all in some vein of dangerous and dubious legality, and I'm sure the probability of at least one of them getting the crap scared out of themselves at a near-death experience goes way up the longer they work in their careers.

Jean-Luc Picard/Q

Data/Geordi La Forge

I'll copy over what was in my sign-up first before tackling things by tag specifically:

Wants (optional, in no particular order or configuration) - For both - "Must Marry To Be Allowed To Go To War" falls in line with my love of irony, especially of the bureaucratic nonsense variety. "Blurting Out Proposal Unplanned" is I think incredibly endearing to see from any of these characters, especially if tossed in with other tags. If you'd like to use any of the tags in the other ship, please do so!

For Qcard, I would love to see an AU of "Q and the Grey" where Q goes to Picard for help instead of Janeway (I love her to bits, but man was that proposal awkward) and plies the diplomatic skillset of Picard's "for the greater good" when it just so happens to be a convenient way for him to be close to his crush. I love all the arranged marriage and "Getting Married So You Can't Testify Against Each Other in Court" type tropes for them, particularly because it would make for some GREAT banter. "Marriage of Convenience Spouses Never Expected to See Each Other Again but They Do" would make for some great drama (please subtract or add pining as you like). "Married at Sea" because my poking through Memory Alpha gives me the idea that Picard secretly loves naval things when he's not pining over archaeology as a hobby. "Married On The Astral Plane" - aahh, especially if Q can conjure up something romantic regarding moonbeams or whatnot (it's an aesthetically pretty idea, at least, but I'm not married - hah - to the idea).

For DaForge, I think they make for a very cute couple - "Pretending to be Married for Method Acting" would be ?? great??? I know Data loves to improve his emotional range and anthropological pursuits by emulating things, so this would be cool to see, too. "Marriage to get spouse out of or keep spouse out of jail" - I saw this and cracked up at the idea of either Data OR Geordi being in that situation (bonus points if they're both in jail and, idk, Picard has to Captainly Marry Them).

Accidental Engagement - Didn't Know Item Was Traditional Betrothal Gift - Both listed ships; I can't really see either Q or Geordi confusing something as a betrothal gift, and ordinarily I would also put Data or Picard into this, but for an object from the Q continuum (might not manifest the same to the mortal plane as the Continuum, so how would Picard be able to tell things apart?) or Data running across something in Geordi's room that he hasn't logged the purpose of yet would be something logical (hah) I could see.

Arranged Marriage - Spouse as Hostage for their Family/People's Good Behavior - Qcard; the crew on the Enterprise probably wouldn't do more than give Q a good ribbing about marrying their captain (once they've... ascertained Q's good intentions), but the Q Civil War is too much of a good opportunity for me to pass up. Junior's one way to negotiate a truce, true, but Q coming up with a solution of "let's go marry a human, they're the ones that encouraged this!" would be true to type for him. That it would also let him get super close to his favourite capitaine is just a cherry on top for him. And if the Continuum decides to see how ardently Q wants peace in the Continuum while they're at it...? Well, I'm sure that's enough chaos to last all of them a while.

Arranged marriage to end conflict - Qcard (see above tag) and/or DaForge; I'm not quite sure what scenarios I could come up with for DaForge, but this is one of those tags where AUs would be cool to see.

Blurting Out Proposal Unplanned - Both listed ships; I'll probably like any flavour of this trope.

Slice of Married Life During Wartime - Both listed ships; I'm not particular which war you pick, Q Civil War or Dominion War, but a peek into either of the ship's daily lives would definitely be on my wishlist.

Romantic proposal - Both listed ships; I'm a big, big fan of the type of understated romance where people are comfortable and used to showing affection to each other, so with this trope something simple and heartfelt would be something I'd love to see. Waking up with a ring on their finger? A breakfast in bed? A note in their pocket? A puzzle game (where would the clues be left?)? Romantic meal for two? Whatever you come up with, I'll probably like!

Getting Married So You Can't Testify Against Each Other in Court - Both listed ships; Q and Picard started with a court case, and dammit, a court case would I like to see - bonus points if it's either Starfleet going "wait a minute" when rereading some reports of Q showing up on the Enterprise, or the Continuum (.... doing the same thing) going "wait a minute" about- oh, I don't know, the events of Farpoint or even Q's motivations that sparked the Q Civil War ("where's this sudden urge for individuality, it must have been from that captain of his"). For DaForge, some hijinks one or both of them get into - some diplomatic mission? Helping a ship in need of repairs? - that starts off routine but quickly snowballs, quite possibly due to their earnest attempts to solve an issue with the local authorities (on a ship? foreign planet?) would I think be terribly in character.

Marriage Causes Unexpected Magical Effects - Qcard; Mostly because I want to see Picard getting some Q powers, and one or both of them having some blend of "uh-oh" or "oh that's neat" about it. Bonus points if Picard goes "uh-oh" and then starts experimenting with it until he goes "oh that's neat".

Proposal after a near death experience - Both listed ships; I'll probably like literally any combination of this.

Pretending to be Married for Method Acting - DaForge; Data puts so much effort into figuring out how to be a human, and I like to think he throws himself into method acting at least twice a month - marriage would certainly be on his list of important life events to study, and I think Geordi might be easier to convince than the ten-page long argument Data probably prepared for it.

Old Married Couple - Both listed ships; I know Q and Data have comparatively long life spans, but it would be interesting to see how either of them react to their respective husbands aging.

Must Marry To Be Allowed To Go To War - Both listed ships; For both of the ships, I would love to see the bureaucratic nonsense that particularly a Dominion War setting would engender (marriage is surely the quickest way to form a will in case you die, yes?). For Qcard in a Q Civil War situation, I'd love to see some worldbuilding on what would happen to a Q if/when they die - a will, yes, but in a deeper sense. Would there be side effects if a Q's spirit dissipated into the ether of the Continuum? Is it some way to co-opt the sentience of Q-ness that would be necessary to continue duties a Q might be required to do (i.e. that trial on Farpoint). Worldbuilding with this trope would be very cool to see, and the meatier the better.

Character A Proposes Marriage to Save Character B's Life - Both listed ships; I'll probably like literally any combination of this.

Character thinks proposal was rejected but other person misunderstood - Both listed ships; For Qcard - either Picard (because he thinks Q is up to his usual theatrics, maybe?) or Q (is he afraid he's misinterpreting things because he wantsto hear that? Does he think Picard was somehow joking?), and for DaForge - either Data (does he believe he's misinterpreted some cultural nuance? are they at a stage of dating that Data thinks it's another quip Geordi assures him is a couple's type of joke?) or Geordi (did Data ramble and the proposal get lost somewhere in the mix? Something else?).

Characters Keep "Forgetting" to Annul Accidental Marriage - Both listed ships; I think this would combine well with a lot of the other tropes, for Qcard especially the Accidental Engagement trope and for DaForge especially the Method Acting trope, but honestly I'd be game to see what kind of combination you could come up with.

Marriage of Convenience Spouses Never Expected to See Each Other Again but They Do - Qcard; This is another one of those situations where I'm wiggly between Q Civil or Dominion Wars (there's a lot of unresolved issues with them, I think), because I'd enjoy either situation as my top picks for this trope, but I'd be okay with other scenarios.

Marriage to get spouse out of or keep spouse out of jail - Both listed ships; I think I already iterated on a DaForge scenario above the tag list, and that's a bit my favourite for this trope, but I'd also be curious to see how it could be incorporated for Qcard.

Married at Sea - Qcard; I think I iterated this one as well above the tags, and I'd be a huge fan of seeing at least Picard in a period-appropriate uniform to get married in. Add or subtract a Barbossa scenario as you please.

Married On The Astral Plane - Qcard; I've got this incessant image of them marrying (and having a dance) on literal moonbeams, and I love how pretty that would look. This is one of those tropes where I'd love the romance turned up to eleven, especially with how uniquely they would both approach it. Could be combined with any of the tropes to any degree of inclusion mostly to see how they would look in softly sparkling light lbr.
